Internal decorating in Poynton

Poynton is largely a commuter village, and the housing reflects that — a lot of 1960s to 1980s detached and semi-detached family homes, some newer estates, and a scattering of older cottages nearer the village centre and towards Higher Poynton.

Houses of that era have their own quirks. Artexed ceilings and textured walls are common, and people often want them gone. Depending on the depth of the texture that means either skimming over or careful removal and making good, and it is worth being honest that it is a messy job either way. Once it is flat, though, the difference to a room is bigger than any colour change.

The other regular job here is woodwork. Original 1970s doors, frames and skirting are often still in place under several coats of yellowed gloss. Rubbed down properly and finished in a modern satinwood, they look sharp again and cost a great deal less than replacing them.

Poynton is an easy run for us, so smaller jobs — a single bedroom, a hallway, a bit of woodwork — are just as welcome as full-house work.
