Internal decorating in Altrincham

Altrincham covers a lot of ground for a decorator. There are Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas around the town and up towards Bowdon, 1930s semis on the outer roads, and a growing number of apartments and converted buildings near the market quarter.

In the older terraces the recurring jobs are stripping decades of wallpaper off walls that were never lined, making good the plaster underneath, and rescuing original woodwork — panelled doors, deep skirtings, sash boxes — from layers of gloss. Where the plaster has had a hard life, lining the walls before painting gives a far better result than filling endlessly and hoping.

In the apartments and newer conversions it is the opposite problem: everything is flat and modern, so any imperfection in the finish shows immediately. That is where preparation and a proper mist coat on new plasterboard earn their keep.

We also do a fair amount of rental and letting work in Altrincham, where a hard-wearing scheme and a fixed number of days matter more than anything else. There is more on that on our commercial decorating page.
